Originally rendered for the Outpost Myst render challenge at DAZ Studio ([link]) (Platinum Club membership required).

Original idea was the Vanguard discovering Future Rite (hovering down a deep chasm with spotlights). And then Aiko 4 Beth wearing Light Rider (blue camo) and Cowboy Gumdrop (blue) with Anime A4 hair flying out to meet Aiko 4 Luna with Bandua hair, wearing the Stellar (space dweller) outfit.

So that's how the scene is laid out. But I was playing with fog volumetrics in DAZ Studio + Reality + Luxrender which ended up really changing the look and feel of the scene!!

Terrain was created in Bryce and exported to DS (cannot say I was very impressed with the export "capabilities" though).

The "contrail" effect was by accident, and is mostly generated by the light shining through the Bandua Hair on the Aiko 4 in the Future Rite set (what the Vanguard is pointed at).

The only direct light hitting the Vanguard is from that same point light. In other words, without the volumetrics there is virtually no light on the Vanguard!

Sorry for the lower resolution -- took a couple days to render it this far even at that size. Going higher would take over half a week!

May render some different camera angles from this scene since it has so much going on in it.

remember this from the reality forum, but thought it was darker? Gotta love that fog volumetrics! ;) ...great angle too!

I think I posted a lower Sp/x render, and that means the fog would have been less defined, so I think the scene would have to look darker just because of that.

This is defintely my best use of fog, probably ever (dang, I've peaked already...;) ) And I love how much energy or a sense of action stilted camera angles can being to a scene. I think a lot of artists overlook that, yet e.g. this scene would fall flat without it.

Thanks for the comments! Very much appreciated!!

Wow, this is fantastic! I am uber impressed with the volumetrics! I should start messing with them to add a bit more depth to some of my scenes.

Paolo just announced he's going to release a tweaked version, allowing for much more subtle (even with sunlight!!) atmospheric effects, using the same fog prop!! He's delaying the 1.22 maintenance release to slip this in!! I'm very excited!!
